What if, rather than each DJing program writing it's own functions for things like virtual turntables, mixers and the like, a set of libraries is written that would have the code for virtual DJ gear and methods for attaching to sound servers. This would cary these benefits:

* customization; each person could have his or her DJ interface look the way they want it to.
* easy to get software to the users because nobody will have to re-invent the wheel when writing DJ software.

So what do you think? would sut a set of libraries be useful or am I blowing smoke?

Yeah you have a right idea about about modular software.

You may look at GDAM (http://gdam.ffem.org/) which is a great network modular dj'ing software but has very poor documentation and lots of bugs.

It is what i try to do with DJMix... There is C++ API i try to well documented and a qt example software. The C++ API doesn't use QT but only standard templates. It is very modular.

I wil try soon to create a parallel interface (also OpenSource of course !) with motorised turntable, lots of buttons, etc etc... People who have idea or want to help me are welcomed !!!! . I look for some people to wrote web site for djmix ... Althought there is lots of works, I think it is now the time to publish it!!!!
