"semi"-automatic beat-matching ... - 2005/12/24 21:51

Hello there,

does anybody know of a paticular DJing software (open-source
or not) which has "semi"-automatic beat-matching; by that I
mean that it has a beat-matching process which uses user input
along with thr usual "algorithmic" approaches to do the beat-matching ????
for example, it could prompt the user to get ideas about speed of
the tracks and prompt the user for ideas about the phase of the
trks,once they are at the same speed !
or like, for example, the input could be a visualization which is directly manipulated using mouse or keyboard ....

does anybody know what im talking about or know examples of software
which art like this ??

If I had understand correctly what you said, I know that commercial DJ'ing software are able to do this (i reminder about TraktorDJ for example)...

I never found one (good quality) open source djing with semi/full automatic beat matching.

As I know, Gdam which i use lot allow you to defined beats in a "beat editor" and then able to synchronize song which you defined beats (the result is a better synchronization scheme that automatic beat matching but require ... lots... of works !).

Hmmm.. If someone known about opensource beat matching algorithm, i will look for it for my own software )))

There is no software for good beat-matching. Mixxx and UltraMixer are the only available for this use, but algorythm is far from being good.

OK I am a huge fan of GDAM,but i dont really use the autosynch
functionality, because, like u said, u really have to put alot of work
beforehand into "tagging" up each file.. but it is interesting how
you are made to do that visually,and using the DR BEAT-style spacebar-tapper ....

but what i am really talking about is one which does not have this
inntrusive style of getting information for
the beat matching process-- it is inline, and maybe it learns more
and more each time you play the track: which is your favourite
start/stop points, what is the rate difference in speed btwn 2 particular
tracks u mix more than once using it .....

i have been meaning to chk out TraktorReaktor for a whilenow,
hopefully i will find it to be a very inspirational software =)

I *TOTALLY* agress with you havokok2. Also, working synchronize with gdam is *REALLY* awful sometimes....

If i had understand, it is like a function like "history" in web navigator: I dream that each time you create you load a song, you can memorize a loop, a start point, sections (if think that gdam beat section is a very powerful thing)... and save it automatically into mp3 database files....

Your idea about automatic learning of software is a right thing.... Are you C++ developper, you may try to write piece of code in front of djmix loooool 8)
