[quote:ce6b41487a="ppires"]i think most djs and music producers will stick for a long time to windows/macos products. why?! because it's simple.
linux is becoming (faster and faster) a great solution for desktop/server, still it lacks the "mass" factor. djs and producers know that Apple, besides the costs, it's a very very good solution for multimedia work (i remember a documentary i've seen a couple months ago showing a dj scratching on a data plate, while putting sound in its apple powerbook, and that was AWESOME!); still most of this guys use Windows and don't have the "need" to change to anything else.[/quote:ce6b41487a]
You are perfectly right. The real issue is the mass factor: no mass then no developers, no developers then no software, but also no developers then no mass... So the issue is breaking this circle: form up a community and a improve the developer crew. This is my view for OpenJay.org!
[quote:ce6b41487a="ppires"]i guess that to be an open-source dj (cool name btw), you have to really know what open-source is, and to follow its lines of thought. we have lots of choices, although most projects happens to die after their first couple of versions. i guess this community should focus, not on a linux distro with djing abilities, but rather to the main targets in the current linux scene: audio drivers and software.[/quote:ce6b41487a]
mmm... I think that to be an OJ (OpenSource Dj) you only need to use OpenSource software. To Know what is OSS and how you can contribute is not required as it is not required to know it for using OpenOffice...
But you are right another time... Lot of projects died. And they die everyday. Sometimes the issue is the maintaner, some other it is the community (no donations means no OSS for such a little projects. No donations means no time for the developer to code... and so on!), some other again patents or software conflicts (closed versus open is quite dangerous sometimes!).
But we should trust it. As in other similar fields we need a killer app to create mass... [b:ce6b41487a]So if you can contribute in some way... Just do that! No need to be a coder or to donate money... Contributing has several meanings: make known, write docs, make graphics... Everyone could give something... Even posting in this forum means contributing![/b:ce6b41487a]
So I should really thank you ppires to be a new contributor!!!

http://bloodshed.net/wired/?sid=5[/quote:ce6b41487a]Mixxx could be our killer app. And the project, thanks to the great Tue, has never died! Wired seems to be promising...
