Obtaining music for DJing. - 2005/12/09 22:45
Hi, I've been thinking recently about starting my library of music for DJing, but all the revenues I've looked at have been dead ends, either the music is encrypted through DRM, you can't keep the music, or there's not a linux version. I've thought about ripping from CDs but if I were to do that, I'd much rather DJ from CDs and buy the special gear for CD DJing. Any ideas or opinions?

I may be better to buy cd because of drm... People says me that files sell on web used sometimes poor encoding parameters.
CDs djing may dammage cd in long time... djing mp3 hasn't this problem. (however, in france, you should have cd boxes next to you...)
Finally, before talking about cd/mp3 djing, have you found the right mp3 djing system (software & hardware) which please you djing ??????
Regards

The problem for me is that I'm legally blind, so my pickings for software are really thin because most of the available software for DJing is graphical, and as any blind person who's moved to Linux can tell you, trying to use speech on a graphical interface is like trying to learn how to dance with a body cast. On the hardware side, there's not a problem because I have a neat little device that can create braille labels, so that's not a problem.

Your opinions must be made treasure by developers. For sure! Interface should be accessible for all people.
Pay attention! Not all licenses allow you to redistribute your mixes!
If I would have to buy music for djing I would buy CDs (boycotting DRM ones) and I would rip them by myself. If this is not possible I would use some cool web services such as PromoOnly or some DJ music vendors selling online (i.e. in Italy the Saifam Group http://www.saifam.com).
