cannot install djplay - 2007/10/06 07:19

hello
i'm new to linux and very new to djplay.
i have a problem installing this software. when trying to do the ./configure, it gives me an error like it needs "glib". i compiled glib from source, but still the same error.
btw: i use debian 4 stable (etch?) with kde.

Could you post your error output?

And... Are you really sure that there isn't already a djplay package for debian? I suggest you to look for a repo.

Firstly, this is the error output that I get when trying to execute ./configure:

"checking for glib >= 1.2.0... sh: glib-config: command not found
sh: glib-config: command not found
sh: glib-config: command not found
sh: glib-config: command not found

Requested 'glib >= 1.2.0' but version of GLib is
configure: error: Library requirements (glib >= 1.2.0) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them."

Until now I had glib 2. But I installed glib 1.2 too, and it gives me the same error.

Secondly: looked for a .deb package that I could install, and all I found was an Ubuntu release. This is really annoying.

export | grep PKG_CONFIG_PATH=

you can look if PKG_CONFIG_PATH is set properly. When compiled locally software installs in /usr/local and you should set:

export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=$PKG_CONFIG_PATH:/usr/lib/pkgconfig/

or you should find your local pkgconfig dir. When you do make install to glib, it should set a file called glib.pc or something similar in that dir and pkg-config should find it later in configure.
