Hi mentalfloss! I appreciated your suggestions!
So I'm trying to write my ideas.
1. Consider expanding it to include open source audio productions software, synths, utilities (ardour, trackers, gnusampler, open source vj stuff). Other websites have download links and overviews but they don't review the software from a dj/producer's point of view, there's not enough stuff coming out of the pipeline just for "pure djing" to fill a whole website and maybe there is not enough interest in that only (yet).I think this is good but...
- Considering that I'm actually paying for the OpenJay bandwidth, I don't know if I can support such an expansion... I already experienced that the donation system does not work as one can think. I would like OpenJay to be widespread but I don't know if my hosting plan can manage it...
- Considering that we need reviews and I'm an amateur with relatively few time, I don't know how to do the expansion!
2. Make a technical overview "how to get setup" section with a side-by-side comparison of avaliable software.
Dj's are notorious for prefering simple "works out-of-the-box" solutions because deejaying is more of a performance art they are less likely to want to hack and fiddle with open source stuff the way somebody who composes experimental music might want to (puredata, supercollider, etc). We need to give a non-programmer who just wants to spin tunes a reason to use open source and make it easy for them to get started (otherwise when they run into problems and frustration they will just go out and by traktor/serato instead)Well. I suppose I can set up a wiki for this. I don't know if it could help though... And lines I wrote above are always true...
3. A section for dance/electronic/hip-hop/beat-oriented music that is released under an creative commons license (Free to modify and distribute), people will get motivated to post links to their music and remix eachother's projects, post what software they used, etc...This is a nice idea. I suppose the wiki can help in this too...
Finally. I'm considering the idea of making OpenJay something as Planet OpenJay. So a feed subscription to make possible some new contents that I can't provide. What about?
