Audio/Wave Editor Question from a Linux Newbie -

Hi... I'm new, and I need advice. To put it bluntly, I can't find a program to fit my needs and it's driving me crazy. Here is what I'm running into:
Cool Edit Pro 2.0 (Windows program running under WINE): CEP, my program of choice in XP, likes to freeze when it hits the "resetting menu" section on the loading screen. Now, I have run into sites that say it's possible to get it properly running, but they never seem to have any instructions on how to do it. What a shock.
GLAME: GLAME, in a word, sucks. It sucks hard. I can barely do anything with it.
Audacity: Nice enough, but has a tendancy to close by itself at the most inopprotune times. I just love losing an hour's worth of work just because the program interpreted the "copy" command as "close." Really makes my day. Beyond that, there are a few key things missing that makes it a pain to use. I had to use my girlfriend's XP system in order to finish my "Lightning Blue Eyes" remix.
Ardour: Doesn't fit my needs. It would be great if I were recording a band, but I'm not. I'm creating remixes/mash-ups/re-edits in my basement. Besides, closing the program causes Fedora Core 5 to lock up, and that's never good.
Any suggestions? I have absolutely no idea what to do.
